Pharmaceuticals: Procipient is used as an API (Active Pharmaceutical Substance) and in drug delivery systems as an excipient. DMSO is also an important reaction solvent for the synthesis of API.

Biotechnology: Dimethyl Sulfoxide USP, PhEur is the most widely cryopreservation agent in the media for living cells and tissue. DMSO also plays a role in synthesis of proteins.

Medical Devices: The solvent properties of DMSO make it a useful delivery agent for medical polymers and as a process aid.
